Though a story like this is cryptic and exciting, it’s not convincing enough of the mystical aspects of life considering that the average person’s only conception of magic is Jesus Christ reverse “unaliving” himself after being trapped in a tomb for several days. Sometimes we’ll see a psychic medium good enough to have their own T.V. show, but what truly gets us to believe are our own experiences.

Psychics are actually not the people to talk to ghosts–that’s what mediums are for. You can now study the validity of psychic abilities in academia though a branch of Psychology called parapsychology: the study of psychic and supernatural phenomena using the scientific method. Before automatically writing it off, just know that plenty of highly accredited people stand by it as a legitimate study.
In this paper, “The Experimental Evidence of Parapsychological Phenomena: A Review” Etzel Cardena mentions that “faculty from top-ranked universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford, including a past APA president, endorsed continuing research on Psi”. (Cardena, 2014, p. 664)
There are two branches of psychic ability that parapsychology is currently studying: extrasensory perception and psychokinesis.
Extrasensory perception is an umbrella term for telepathy, clairvoyance, remote viewing, and other types of precognition (the foreknowledge of an event). Telepathy is being affected by someone’s thoughts or emotions without interference of the senses or logic. Clairvoyance is obtaining information about something or someone distant from you without the interference of the senses or logic–though, as a practicing psychic, I can say this can be done through multiple clairs… Remote viewing is the ability to accurately describe the details of a place chosen at random by someone else. Psychokinesis is the ability to utilize your mental activity on physical objects on a macro or micro level. Macropsychokinesis on observable objects and micropsychokinesis happens on unobservable objects, like influencing random number generators with only mental activity. (Cardena, 2014, p. 664)
In the meta-analysis, we see that a lot of the results obtained from various parapsychology experiments are slightly more significant than random. Even though it’s only slightly significant, scientifically it’s significant enough to be looked into more thoroughly as a legitimate science.
